A perfect example of why Tricia Drammeh is one of my all time favorite authors. Her characters are so real and so relatable. in better than Perfect, Karie is stuck in life, refusing to move on since her parents' death. She even lives in her childhood home, sleeping in her old bedroom. Though her sister and adopted-grandmother Marita encourage her to move on, her anxiety won't let her. Then she meets Kevin. An almost too-good-to-be-true college classmate, who won't take her absent excuses when he invites her out for coffee. As if that's not enough complication in her stagnant life, Marita has a heart attack. Heart wrenching enough on its own, it;s made worse by the presence of Marita's fourteen year old grandsons; juvenile delinquents from California whose mother dumped them there in Ohio for the summer. With their grandmother in the hospital, Karie sees no other option than to step up and help out. She has no idea the roller coaster of change she is about to depart on.
As I already said, I loved this story! The characters feel real - It's as though I could walk to the local grocery store and run into any one of them. Even Kevin, who, despite being too rich to live near me, is multilayered enough that he feels real. There were moments in the story where I was angry at some of the characters (especially Karie's sister) which just goes to show how life-like they are. The setting is great, the storytelling and editing are as fantastic as always (It's so rare for me to read a book that I do not constantly rephrase in my head as I go - and I never do with Tricia's books!) and of course the ending is "better than perfect"!

Better than Perfect eBook Tricia Drammeh Reviews
Family is family. Love is love, no matter how that is defined by you. This was a really enjoyable way to spend a day. I could hardly put it down. It progresses nicely without seeming to "push" too much. I loved the reminders in here that you don't have to be blood to be family and that what we thought was what we wanted isn't what's best for us or even really what we wanted in the long run.
I will more than likely reread this...and I already can't wait.
Pain in our lives can cause us to cling to the lives we have and be unable to deal with change. Karlie, our lead character on this story, is in just such a situation. However her kind heart puts her in a situation where the care of two teenage boys becomes important to her.
Do youths and romance mix?
Read this book. You won't be disappointed. A tale for our times that will make sad, happy and satisfied you read this book.
This book hooked me from the very first page. I loved every single character....even busy body Mrs. Carroll.
Karlie was such a great protagonist. It was so refreshing to see her growth throughout the story. She was loyal, caring and most of all stronger than she ever thought she could be when faced with adversity.
Being a mom of twin teenage boys, my heart went out to Connor and Cole. There are so many important life lessons in this story.....it shows you that life isn't always pieced together perfectly, and that's okay. It's how we deal with those curves that life throws at us that define who we are. If you are looking for a feel good read with a cute little romance this is your book. I loved it!
I had no idea what to expect when I started Better than Perfect. I ended up with much more than I ever anticipated.
Karlie is a young woman with plenty of baggage and a career as a college student. Quiet and unassuming, she isn't the type of person who attracts attention from the likes of Kevin, a wealthy and handsome classmate, who showers her with attention at the same time she's experiencing heart-wrenching personal issues.
Still recovering from the death of her parents, Karlie is thrust into the role of care-giver for her elderly neighbor and surrogate grandmother, a woman who's always been there for her. Her sister doesn't understand Karlie's need to give back to the older woman, yet she forges on, carving her own path. This is where her true character shines.
The entrance of her neighbor's twin teenage grandsons, and Karlie's inability to say no to helping them, adds another layer to the already life changing story. I say "life changing" because that is what the reader is able to walk away with from this book. Better than Perfect had me thinking of my life and wondering if I would have stepped forward as Karlie did, pushing her personal and financial limits to the max, yet believing she was doing the right thing.
The introduction of a sexy and caring police officer adds a whole other dimension to the story. I won't go into it here, but trust me when I say this is a book you don't want to pass up. Tricia has written a fabulous story with strong, well developed characters who stick in your mind long after the last page is finished. I will read this one again.
So I guess so far I’m kind of in the minority on this one. The plot itself is ok and held a lot of promise, but I felt like there was no depth. It seemed as though the whole story was told from the outside looking in and there was no real feeling there. I’m not saying the author didn’t try to instill that but is jumped from one situation to another too quickly without every really allowing the reader to connect with Karlie.
I was looking for an easy read this weekend and I found this one was offered as a free book for the weekend.
It did not disappoint. I don't read much romance so I'm not sure if this fits in that genre or not. But it certainly didn't fit with my perception of what is typical romance.
It was a story of a woman who gets entangled with some young teens through her relationship with their grandmother. They have trials and troubles as many teens do. But is she equipped to take care of them? Is she even equipped to take care of herself?
There was the requisite gorgeous man, but that doesn't always work out like you think it will. There were family differences, but those don't always resolve like you think they will.
This was an easy read, but it had some substance to it to keep me reading. It was a well written book, perfect (pardon the pun) for a Sunday read. I highly recommend this book. Four out of five stars.
